Each promises to be an assortment of film, theatre, music (classical, jazz or blues) and visual arts – through which we seek to unveil the common stylistic thread recognizable in each ethnic descent. Because our mandate is to promote the artists outside of their original countries, the films showcased are English and, occasionally, subtitled in English. We feel this policy is an important step toward market accessibility and integral to the process of establishing ethnic artists within the Canadian cultural mainstream.

This groundbreaking approach to cinema represents the experience of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation ethnic Canadians. It is the story of a craving for roots. It is the story of what happens when walls come tumbling down and borders change, which celebrates heritage and survival in spite of the odds.

This personal journey reflects the experience of people worldwide. We find and lose each other, over and over. This is a story about finding ourselves.

First public screening Oct. 1997 Cape Town International Film Festival, South Africa
Broadcast: Vision TV, WTN, SCN Sask.
48 min.

Yaniko Productions Presents "DRINK TEA OUTSIDE" (2008)
Produced and Directed by Yan Krupnik
www.drinkteaoutside.com

The Story:

Sasha Polikov (Andrey Kistitsin) is a street performer from Russia, he is free spirited, and unconventional.
When he arrived in Canada, he discovered that the cultural clash is much greater than he could have ever foreseen.
While falling in love with Maria (Katy Torgovnikov), Sasha attempts to find balance between what he must do and what he wants to do to survive in his new environment.

The Making Of:

While performing twice a day, 6 days a week, at Cirque Avaia in the summer of 2007 in Niagara Falls, the film crew was simultaneously in production in Toronto for "Drink Tea Outside". The crew consisted of people currently residing in Canada, Russia and Belarus. Since the majority of the crew were performers at the shows, they coordinated stunts, constructed sets, and designed most of the wardrobe themselves. It was shot in over 30 locations, 3 cities and features 14 original soundtracks created for the film in Canada and Russia.

Film screenings are held in Toronto (Canada) and Novosibirsk (Russia).
66 min.

FISHEL PUSTILNIK
Composer and Musician

www.easyhitsmusic.com
Fishel Pustilnik, composer and musician plays piano, sax and violin.
